Abstract (De)
Entrepreneurs employ different types of information search behavior to recognize promising opportunities. Prior works have distinguished between passive, proactive and systematic search. However, studies of the reasons why some entrepreneurs mobilize particular types of information search behaviors are plagued by under-theorized findings and mixed-results. As a result, academic understanding of the role played by information search behaviors in entrepreneurship remains severely limited – making it difficult to provide practitioners with sound, evidence-based recommendations. To address this problem, we develop and test a model of the key antecedent drivers of different types of information search behavior. We found proof that the entrepreneur’s regulatory focus and environmental dynamism significantly impact the entrepreneurs’ preferences for some types of search behaviors.
