Abstract
Growing commoditization and increasingly complex customer needs in stagnating markets pushes capital goods manufactures from products to services. By integrally exploring and exploiting product and service value opportunities they must orchestrate their sensing, seizing and reconfiguring capabilities to build, integrate and rearrange their internal and external competences. This paper derives a conceptual model from the literature that ties the relations between dynamic capabilities, company assets and profitability. Furthermore it presents propositions on how explorative and exploitative approaches can be aligned to successfully develop a service business and concurrently exploit the still given value opportunities in the product business.
