The International Economics Section is formed by the chair for
Foreign Trade and Development held by Professor Simon Evenett, and
the chair for International Economics held by Professor Reto
The Economics Policy Section is formed by the chair for Economic Policy and Econometrics held by Professor Gebhard Kirchgässner, and the Assistant Professors Christine Benesch and Mark Schelker.
Economic policy advice must be based on thorough empirical research and a deep understanding of the process of policy making. Work at the institute is directed towards developing the methodological basis for policy advice as well as leading to policy recommendations in selected areas.
With regard to policy areas, international economic relations, environmental policy, the reform of tax and social security systems and direct democracy are priority areas for research and policy advice.
