Benchmarking Strategisches Technologiemanagement

abstract Two aspects are clearly standing out of the overall results of the benchmarking study on Strategic Technology Management: R&D is proactively increasing its market orientation, and opening up the innovation process goes along with the necessity to protect intellectual assets.
The benchmarking partner companies are distinctively optimising their technology and product development processes by tying networks more than ever to the outside at all stages of the R&D process. It is not only the involvement of the customer that leads to a market orientation, but it is the obligation to understand and anticipate the customer requirement and to strive for a solution with joined forces of R&D, the businesses, and any additional, potentially valuable external part-ner. The five companies have broken up the tendency to protect each and every finding and have pruned their patent portfolios to actively manage a powerful number of patents with higher values.
