New concepts for international R&D: Perspectives from China

abstract By today, 400 out of the Fortune Top 500 have established at least one research and development (R&D) unit, if not even a global R&D centre in China. At the moment the total number of foreign R&D units in China is estimated to total 600 and to grow at a rate of 30% per year. This phenomenon is all the more surprising if one considers the fact that in early 2000 there were only 34 foreign R&D units in China.

The goal of this project is to empirically explore this new, highly relevant yet unresearched phenomenon of foreign R&D in China that seems to contradict existing theory on international R&D.
