Preface: Introduction to Special Section – Business Models

fulltext etc. no fulltext attached
abstract At first glance, there seems to be a broadunderstanding regarding business models. However, a more thorough analysis ofexisting resources paints a different picture. The term ‘business model’ often remainsundefined and a consensus on the elementsof business models is lacking. An analysisof various sources, such as electronic databases, conference proceedings, and EM Electronic Markets itself supports thisstatement. Nevertheless, business modelsare largely believed to determine thesuccess of an electronic venture. Toestablish some structure and to identifythe critical components of business models, the existing definitions and approacheswere analysed and led to a model, whichdifferentiates six business model elements. This model is also used to position thearticles submitted to this special issue ofEM Electronic Markets.
