It’s the industry, stupid! : A new perspective on corporate responsibility

fulltext etc. no fulltext attached
versione breve In this paper I argue that industrial sectors represent an analytical category for CR that has not been fully explored yet. An industry works as a frame for a number of companies and their sector stakeholders. The frame is a set of shared perceptions about what constitutes the business of those companies. When it comes to CR, industrial sectors are instrumental in downscaling abstract concepts into concrete terms. The shared perceptions and the downscaled responsibility are conducive to collective action among companies and between companies and their sector stakeholders. Evidence from empirical research demonstrates that many examples of such cooperation do already exist, although consistent knowledge about sector-specific CR is still emerging.
