Abstract (De)
Our sub-plenary on Organizations and the Anthropocene is one in a series of panels at EGOS 2019 around the applicability of organization theory to grand challenges. In our plenary, we will:
• illuminate the nature of the Anthropocene as a grand challenge
• link specific areas of research and practice in Anthropocene science and policy to organization theory
• highlight current policies, social movements and practices in the field, focusing on some key examples
• identify emerging streams of science and social research on the Anthropocene.
The three proposed panelist – Andy Hoffman, Judith Walls, Gail Whiteman – will each spend 15 minutes on their areas of expertise. Judith Walls (Incoming ONE President) will illuminate the nature of the grand challenge and Anthropocene science, plus broader initiatives outside the Academy; Andy Hoffman, long time analysts of climate change issues and movements, will link organization theory with climate change skepticism; Gail Whiteman, a very respected researcher and well-positioned practitioner will highlight some current policies, organizational practices and trends in the field. All three will identify the emerging streams and the need for transdisciplinary approaches. Dev Jennings will moderate.
