Abstract
Domestic energy consumption accounts for about 20-30% of total energy use in western countries [1], [2]. On the level of single households, however, energy consumption tends to vary greatly. This is particularly due to differences regarding behavior and decisions made by individuals. For example, heating and ventilation behavior, the intensity of the use of electrical appliances and hot water, as well as home insulation and weatherization provisions affect total energy consumption. Therefore, in the context of energy transition, interventions targeting energy-relevant behaviors and decisions on the level of single individuals are promising tools to increase domestic energy efficiency on a large scale.
