Abstract
This paper reports on the real-time use of graphic frameworks in panel discussions in the context of business, science or policy conferences. While panel discussions of 3-6 expert panelists are ubiquitous and prominent, almost no research so far has analyzed their communication challenges and potential for visual support. Hence, this paper aims to analyze panel discussions from a visual perspective to identify recurring pitfalls and potential enhancements, particularly regarding the use of real-time, visual support through facilitation or whiteboarding software. It reports on the pilot uses of simple interactive visual frameworks to structure panel conversations and capture their main contributions graphically for the audience in real-time.
