Description
The design of business models has attracted the interest of both scholars and business practitioners (Amit, Zott, & Massa, 2011), because business models are considered as a key to creating and to capturing value from innovation (Teece, 2010). Despite its apparent importance for the success of firms, recent studies point out that business model research lacks coherence and, as far as new firms are concerned, should be better integrated with the extant entrepreneurship literature (George and Bock, 2011).
A better integration with the major findings in entrepreneurship research could significantly advance the understanding of business models in several main aspects. Specifically, the research project seeks to examine four interrelated research topics in the context of new technology ventures:
- the human and social capital antecedents of business models
- the contingent factors that affect business model design
- the financial and non-financial outcomes of business models
- the experimentation and adaptation ("pivoting") of business models.
