Abstract
The professional services sector has gained a prominent role in supporting the process of value creation of companies due to the increasingly complex and volatile business environments managers in most industries have to cope with. However, the competitive dynamism in their client industries also has strong repercussions on the evolution of the professional services sector itself, characterized by an increasing tension between the need for global standardization and local responsiveness. In this study, the role of non-managing partners of professional service firms both as facilitators and recipients of corresponding initiatives of strategic change is analyzed. Specifically, the paper focuses on the contribution of sensemaking activities to describe and explain the role of middle management within processes of strategic renewal of professional service firms.
