Abstract
Companies strive to improve the environmental impact of their products as well as the resource efficiency of their production processes. Especially during the planning phase they can choose from alternative manufacturing process chains for the same production task. This offers a possibility for enhancing the production system's resource efficiency. In order to identify the most resource efficient alternative, an evaluation method is needed that regards the characteristics of the different resource flows that are caused by manufacturing process chain. An existing resource efficiency index is supplemented by integrating a weighting scheme for resources based on multiple criteria decision analysis methodology.
