    ;
    Christopher Pawlak
    This report, authored by Christian Abegglen, Christopher Pawlak, and Leon Zacharias, investigates the balance between agility and resilience in pharmaceutical supply chains amidst these changes. The study focuses on how pharmaceutical companies can adapt their operational capabilities to remain competitive in a volatile environment. Utilizing a mixed-method survey conducted during the Pharmap 2024 conference in Amsterdam, the research captures insights from industry experts. Findings indicate that a combination of agility and resilience is crucial for navigating disruptions. Agility enables rapid adaptation to market changes, while resilience ensures long-term sustainability by withstanding and recovering from significant disruptions. The report embeds these findings into the St. Gallen Management Concept, offering a holistic approach to align strategies with operational capabilities and cultural readiness. The implications suggest that pharmaceutical companies should foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation, integrate advanced technologies, and enhance strategic initiatives to maintain stability and competitiveness.

    Konsortialstudie: Konzepte der Automobillogistik der Zukunft
    (Cuvillier Verlag Göttingen, 2022-08-07) ;
    The consortium study "Concepts of Automotive Logistics of the Future" analyzes the changes and trends affecting the automotive industry and its inbound logistics as well as their impact on logistics processes and structures. Taking these influencing factors into consideration, the logistics concepts of the automotive industry are critically examined in order to develop future logistics concepts based on these findings. Future scenarios were calculated in the study; together with the change drivers, these form the basis for the development of future scenarios. In total, nine future concepts were developed (Car Chain Visibility, FutureWOW, OFTO, Pizza Run, Trailer Drive, Urban Future, Green Industry Cluster, FlexJIS, Energy Hubs). For the implementation of the future concepts, special enablers have to be addressed, which influence the effectiveness of the concepts: Actively attract and retain skilled workers, create a modern and intelligent parking management system, and adapt tender management. The automotive inbound logistics concepts of tomorrow thus range from relevant trends as impulse generators to enablers for the implementation of the concepts.

    Logistikmarktstudie Schweiz 02-2024: Trends, Nachhaltigkeit, Geopolitische Krisen, Automatisierung
    The second issue of the Swiss Logistics Market Study in 2024 focuses on trends, sustainability, geopolitical crises and automation in the Swiss logistics market. The trend radar illustrates the current technological, social and economic trends in the Swiss logistics market and their dynamics. The focus of the analysis of developments in the freight transport market is on determining the sustainability of logistics. In addition, mode-specific developments in road, rail, air and shipping are examined in order to describe the current market situation. Besides the recurring static topics, the issue includes two dynamic topics, geopolitical crises and automation: the complexity along global trade routes is constantly increasing due to global crises. Established flows of goods have had to be adapted within a very short space of time, which is now leading to new challenges. Delays and cost increases in supply chains are the logical consequence. In this issue, we also explore the question of how much digitalisation actually makes sense. Could Switzerland be described as an Eldorado for automation in warehouse logistics? Issue 02-2024 of the Swiss Logistics Market Study provides answers to these and further questions.

    Die Schweiz - International vernetzt
    ( 2024-05-16)
    The Bundesverband Logistik Österreich (BVLÖ) hosts the annual top industry event in Vienna. This forum serves as a cross-thematic and cross-regional platform for coordinating future logistical and transportation planning measures. The Institute for Supply Chain Management was once again invited to present a keynote by Dr. Leon Zacharias, highlighting the important role of Switzerland in international trade. Dr. Zacharias emphasizes Switzerland's extensive global connectivity and the associated challenges. The focus includes political and economic relations with neighboring Austria, significant infrastructure projects such as the NEAT railway system, and the impact of geopolitical crises on Swiss trade. Despite a strong logistical framework, Switzerland faces continuous challenges such as infrastructure constraints, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical risks. These require innovative solutions to maintain and expand Switzerland's central position in global trade.
