position Markus Schimmer is a Postdoc at the Institute of Management of the University of St. Gallen, where he received his Ph.D. During his studies, Markus has been a visiting research scholar at Prof. Ming-Jer Chen at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business. His research interests are directed towards firm and industry dynamics, with competitive dynamics and industrial organization being his preferred theoretical perspectives.

His work has appeared in various journals, such as Strategic Organization, The Journal of Strategy and Management, and The Harvard Kennedy School Review. It received further scholarly acknowledgements such as the Outstanding Paper Award at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence (2011), and a nomination for the William H. Newman Award (BPS division 2012). Similarly, Markus' teaching case study on competition within converging Internet markets meets high demand and is used at several institutions for teaching the economics of rivalry among internet eco-systems (e.g., at the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta, or the University of St. Gallen).

Prior to his Ph.D. studies, Markus has worked at the Central Program Office of a multinational insurance group as the Implementation Controller of the firm's global growth and efficiency program.
