His major research interests are in the area of Corporate Strategy and Corporate Governance. His primary area of expertise is on issues of corporate restructuring (i.e. acquisitions and divestitures). Recent manuscripts on these research topics have appeared or are forthcoming, in journals such as the Journal of Management, Journal of Management and Governance, Corporate Governance: An International Review, the German Journal of Industrial Relations, International Studies of Management & Organization, Performance and IO Management.

Strategic Human Resource Management - Workforce Downsizing
For his research activities in the field of corporate strategy, he has received several honors and awards. Among others, he received the Amicitia price of the University of St.Gallen for his doctoral thesis, was finalist for the Best Conference Paper Award at the Strategic Management Society Conference (Paris, 2002), his work on corporate portfolio management received an Honourable Mention of the Organization Management Theory Division (Philadelphia, 2007), and he was among the four finalists for the highly reputated Carolyn Dexter Award at the Academy of Management Conference (Anaheim, 2008) and was nominated again in 2010 for the Carolyn Dexter Award (Montreal, 2010). In 2008, he was awarded the Swiss Latsis Price. The Latsis Price is the highest distinction recognizing outstanding achievements of young researchers in Switzerland across disciplines.
