The business of water supply and wastewater treatment is changing towards privatisation and higher profitability. New tools and management methods such as the Balanced Scorecard can be introduced and used to integrate Corporate Sustainability in a new way as an important strategic objective for a sound future. The article explains how Corporate Sustainability can be included in the larger concept of the Balanced Scorecard. It describes and analyses the process of developing and introducing a strategic objective (resource management and protection). It creates indicators and targets for environmental protection into the Balanced Scorecard of the Berlin Water Company.
