Item type:Publication, Introduction: Strategic entanglements – un/commoning as relational labour of articulating resource modalitiesIn the introduction to this special issue, the authors focus on ‘strategic entanglements’ in the study of the commons, commoning, and accumulation by dispossession. They challenge the recent scholarly focus on projects that understand themselves as outside of capitalisms or other hegemonic economic systems. Instead, Streinzer and Tošić understand social reproduction as a totality of assemblages of actors and relations of capital, labour, property, investment, kinship, state, commons and more at play. In these assemblages, the commons coexist, compromise and collaborate with other forms of resource organisation and property regimes. The special issue zooms in on how actors navigate these entanglements to create, sustain, or undo their own projects and politics. Strategic entanglements is hence a perspective that helps in understanding the interdependences of various forms of property regimes and in investigating the kinds of relational labour involved in articulating them.Type:journal articleJournal:Critique of AnthropologyVolume:45Issue:1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Authoritarian trajectories of (de)alienation: political affect, invoking the state and humanist-Marxist legaciesThis article works with the concept of (de)alienation to zoom in on the experiences and accounts of a new political affect articulated in the unfolding student-led antiauthoritarian protests in Serbia. It seeks to understand why the protests are seen and felt as a turning point that restores people’s ability to relate to their society and reclaim a sense of the political. Apart from its main focus on an ethnographic-analytical account of the particular a(party)political character of the protest claims and practices, the article comparatively explores resonances between the present-day protest and the humanist-Marxist legacy of student protests of 1968. The article concludes by looking at Europe and the world from the vantage point of student protests in Serbia as a perspective to think about contemporary ways of invoking the state and (re)claiming the political.Type:journal articleJournal:Inter-Asia Cultural StudiesVolume:26Issue:5Scopus© Citations 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, ON THE CHALLENGES OF ENGAGEMENT AND DOING ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH IN CONFLICT ZONES(2023) ;Catherine Wanner; ; Catherine Wanner invited several anthropologists to come together to discuss the challenges of conducting fieldwork in a region ravaged by war. The group consisted of four anthropologists, two who conduct research in Serbia and two in Ukraine. The group discussed the ethical complications that arise for anthropologists whose field site is or was the site of war as well as the responsibilities war creates for anthropologists who respond to the outbreak of armed combat by writing about state-sponsored violence and the process of enduring violence. Sandra King-Savic moderated this conversation, which took place on 7 July 2022 at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland before a live audience. The transcript of this two-hour conversation was shortened to fit this article and edited for clarity.Type:journal articleJournal:Ethnologia PolonaVolume:44Scopus© Citations 2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
