Zur Aktualität einer Lektürepraxis unter Bedingungen datenbasierter Sprachsysteme.Zusammenfassung Sich Texten intim anzunähern, bedeutet sich lesend unvoreingenommen und ungeschützt auf Begegnungen einzulassen mit abwesenden und anwesenden Anderen, und mit sich. Texte werden dabei nicht als Produkt von Berechnungen und Daten begriffen, sondern als Ausdruck von Welterfahrung und Weltwissen einer oder mehrerer Personen. Um Verstehen zu realisieren und daran möglichst Teilhabe zu erlangen, ist eine Lektürepraxis nötig, worin Elemente der Dekonstruktion (Abwesenheit der Autorschaft und Iteration) mit Elementen der Hermeneutik (Diktat und Vollzugssinn) verbunden werden. Autor:innen werden als abwesende vorgestellt, aber als konkrete Person(en) in Raum und Zeit vorausgesetzt. Die lesende Person wird ihrerseits zwar als sozial eingebettete begriffen, aber in der Lektürepraxis als je Besondere als für die Realisierung von Verstehen notwendige und mitverantwortliche verteidigt. Angesichts aktueller Herausforderungen durch datenbasierte Sprach‐Systeme und deren massive Auswirkungen auf Gerechtigkeitsverständnis, Wahrheitssuche und demokratische Grundrechtforderung kommt der Praxis intimer Lektüre und ihrer Pflege neue und grundlegende Bedeutung zu.Type:journal articleJournal:Orbis Litterarum - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, The Captivated Gaze. Diderot’s Allegory of the Cave and Democracy(2024)The problem of the captivated gaze has been taken up repeatedly in philosophy. Plato's Allegory of the Cave stands paradigmatically for this. Here, the gaze at the shadowy images prevents people from taking the path to the sun. Denis Diderot's critical reinterpretation of Plato's Allegory of the Cave is less well known. In Diderot, the view of the artificial light images is just as captivating as Plato's shadow images. Unlike there, however, Diderot does not distinguish between perception and cognition but instead focuses on the significance of the seemingly unimportant shift of the gaze within the cave. Diderot determines the starting point of the realisation of freedom in the liberation of one's own gaze from the captivation intended by third parties. Prerequisites for the liberation of the gaze are the realisation of an interruption. It is shifts in the alignment of the eyeballs that become visible here as lucid intervals and which, in Diderot, become the starting point of power analysis and the site of revolt and freedom practice. In this article, I will show how Diderot's demand for enabling the individual realisation of lucid intervals is not first and foremost an aesthetic, but a highly political one. The criteria of art, which are defined by Diderot and have not lost their relevance until today, are based on his explosive insight that the incessant captivation of the gaze stands in the way of democratisation.Type:journal articleJournal:Critical Horizons - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Demokratisches Selbstverständnis: historsche Entwicklungen und systematische GrundlagenDemocracies as common projects of freedom, equality and solidarity are historically and systematically based on a form of recognition of universal personal indeterminacy. If persons are understood politically as free and participating, then this affects not only their understanding of self and freedom, but also their understanding of social and political belonging. Criteria for identifying the affiliation of persons thus become recognizable, firstly, as socio-political constructions, which, secondly, are not able to determine persons comprehensively or to grasp them completely. Kippfiguren als Gedankenexperiment(2021)Zusammenfassung: Kippfiguren, so die These im Beitrag, sind Gedankenexperimente, mit denen das demokratische Prinzip Gleichheit, und also das darin unauflöslich wirksame und paradoxe Verhältnis von Gleichheit und Freiheit, plausibel wird. Das geschieht auf zwei Ebenen. Im Vollzug des Kippens wird das je eigene Sehen als Perspektive kenntlich und eine Differenzierung zwischen Wahrnehmen und Denken kommt in Gang. Zudem wird erkennbar, dass dasselbe gleichzeitig dasselbe und doch nicht dasselbe ist. Paradoxe Verhältnisse werden so dem Denken zugänglich und Ver-bindendes vergegenwärtigt. Das Denkerlebnis, das an und mit etwa der Kippfigur des Enten-Hase-Kopfs mittelbar wird, reduziert zwar die Komplexität der Thematik auf eine überschaubare Dimension, es bereitet dabei allerdings doch darauf vor, Anderen als Freie und Verschiedene und als Gleiche zu begegnen. Bewusstwerdung und Ratio-nalität führen, so wird mit dem Gedankenexperiment der Kippfiguren deutlich, nicht, wie es etwa Jean-Jacques Rousseau in seiner Abhandlung über die Ungleichheit un-ter den Menschen und der darin formulierten Forderung nach Gleichheit ausführte, weg von der Einsicht in die Gleichheitsidee, sondern verhelfen dieser hier erst zur Anerkennung und Durchsetzung.Type:journal articleJournal:Zeitschrift für Praktische Philosophie - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
