    Zukunft der Arbeit: Geschlechtervergleich in der Berufsorientierung im Zeitalter der Künstlichen Intelligenz
    This study examines how young people perceive their professional future in an increasingly AI-driven world and which gender-specific differences exist. In an online survey (N = 2144) conducted in Switzerland, secondary school students assessed their AI empowerment. A vignette experiment investigated the impact of augmentation strategies on the perception of ICT careers. The results show that girls feel less empowered in dealing with AI than boys. Dialogue-oriented augmentation strategies could help make AI-related careers more attractive to young women. Educational institutions and companies could build on these insights to foster a future-oriented mindset and strengthen young people’s ability to collaborate with AI.

    Acceptance of Teacher-Authored AI Chatbots in Education: Comparing Student and Teacher Perspectives
    Theoretical background: With the growing availability of generative AI, interest in its didactic potential for classroom teaching has increased (Dwivedi et al., 2023). Acceptance is a key precondition for the sustainable integration of AI chatbots – both from the perspective of students and teachers (Acosta-Enriquez et al., 2024; Dwivedi et al., 2019; Polyportis & Pahos, 2025; Venkatesh et al., 2003). While students mainly emphasize usefulness and motivational aspects, teachers tend to focus more strongly on questions of pedagogical integration and related challenges. Empirical comparisons of these perspectives remain scarce – particularly with regard to teacher-authored chatbots (Yoo & Kim, 2025), i.e., AI systems whose dialogues and scenarios are specifically designed by teachers for their classrooms. Research questions: Against this background, the present study examines the acceptance of teacher-authored chatbots from both student and teacher perspectives. The study addresses the following research questions: 1. How do students evaluate the acceptance and perceived usefulness of teacher-authored chatbots? 2. What attitudes and experiences do teachers report regarding the pedagogical integration and use of such chatbots? 3. To what extent do the perspectives of students and teachers differ? Methods: To answer these questions, we investigated the acceptance of teacher-authored chatbots implemented in the learning app Brian (Brian, 2025) at the upper secondary level. The study is based on a pre-post survey of N = 1455 students from 20 different schools across 10 cantons (high school and vocational education) conducted between February and June 2025, complemented by an online survey of N = 27 teachers. Students and teachers used the app for at least six weeks, during which we conducted two surveys: a pre-test at the beginning and a post-test at the end of the trial. We assessed attitudes toward usefulness, motivation, performance improvement, practicality, and integration, using scales adapted from UTAUT models (Acosta-Enriquez et al., 2024; Dwivedi et al., 2019; Venkatesh et al., 2003). In addition, open-ended questions captured individual experiences. Data analysis included latent mean comparisons as well as non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon) to examine pre-post changes and subgroup differences. Results: From the students’ perspective, acceptance of Brian was moderate and independent of gender or school type. The highest agreement was found for its use in school-based learning processes (M = 3.53, SD = 1.13, Max = 5, N = 938) and as a support tool for learning activities (M = 3.34, SD = 1.13). However, initial enthusiasm declined after several weeks of use (the latent mean declined by 0.577) – possibly reflecting a novelty effect (Deng et al., 2025; Fryer et al., 2017). Overall, Brian seemed to have only a small effect on grades (V = 40801, p = .014, r = .10, N = 564). A differentiated analysis suggested that lower-performing students appeared to benefit more (V = 1422.5, p < .001, r = .78), while higher-performing students showed little additional improvement. Teachers emphasized pedagogical opportunities such as differentiated feedback, flexible support, scaffolding, and the promotion of self-regulated learning. At the same time, they reported challenges related to designing appropriate tasks, the quality and depth of chatbot responses, time investment, and trust in the technology. While both groups expressed generally positive attitudes, our results would seem to suggest that sustained acceptance requires purposeful pedagogical integration and support to stabilize expectations and highlight long-term benefits. This study contributes to the empirical understanding of teacher-authored chatbots and highlights the need to fully exploit their potential. For educational research, this points to the importance of developing integrative models that address both students’ motivational needs and teachers’ professional requirements.

    Evaluierung des KI-basierten Chatbots der Lern-App «Brian» – Eine empirische Studie auf der Sekundarstufe II in der Schweiz
    (Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Bildungsforschung (SGBF), 2025) ;
    Einleitung Seit der Einführung von ChatGPT ist Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der Bildungslandschaft. Schülerinnen und Schüler nutzen diesen Chatbot für eine Vielzahl von Aufgaben wie das Verfassen von Texten, zur Erklärung von Inhalten oder Unterstützung bei Essays und Recherchen. Dies ermöglicht es den Lernenden, Wissenslücken eigenständig zu schliessen und Aufgaben effizient zu bearbeiten. Gleichzeitig besteht jedoch das Risiko, dass essenzielle Kompetenzen wie kritisches Denken und das Vertiefen von Fachwissen vernachlässigt werden (Lo, 2023). Die Lernplattform «Brian» verfolgt den Ansatz, Lehrpersonen und Lernende in einer integrierten Lernumgebung zusammenzubringen und dort Lerninhalte mithilfe von KI zu vermitteln. Um die kritische Auseinandersetzung und Reflexion mit Lerninhalten zu fördern, wurde ein KI-basierter Chatbot mit zwei Nutzungsmodi integriert: Im «Teacher-Led» Modus entwickeln Lehrkräfte anhand vorgegebener Templates («Promptings») Aufgaben in Form von KI-Dialogen für Lernende. Im «Student-Led» Modus erhalten Lernende Zugang zum Sprachmodell (ChatGPT), wobei die Interaktion mit dem Chatbot in Richtung sokratischer Dialog entwickelt ist. Forschungsfragen In der Studie werden spezifische Merkmale des KI-Chatbots in «Brian» evaluiert, mit dem Ziel, Lernprozesse und Lernergebnisse der Lernenden zu verbessern. In der formativen Evaluation im Frühjahr 2025 fokussieren wir uns auf das kognitive, emotionale und behaviorale Student Engagement (Gunuc & Kuzu, 2015; Tang & Hew, 2023) und die Qualität der KI-Dialoge. Folgende Forschungsfragen werden dabei untersucht: 1. Wie wird der KI-Chatbot genutzt (z.B. «Teacher-Led», «Student-Led», Aufgabenstellungen nach Fachbereichen, kategorisiert nach Lernzieltaxonomiestufe (Krathwohl, 2002), etc.)? 2. In welchem Masse funktionieren die KI-Dialoge? 3. Wie nehmen die Lernenden den KI-Chatbot wahr? 4. Welche Faktoren beeinflussen die Akzeptanz des KI-Chatbots? Methode Das Forschungsprojekt wird als Design-Based Research Ansatz (DBR) umgesetzt, um zum einen Design-Prinzipien und relevante Adoptionsfaktoren für KI-basierte Dialoge zu ermitteln (theoretischer Beitrag) sowie auch Rückschlüsse für ein Re-Design von «Brian» (praktischer Beitrag) ziehen zu können. Das methodische Verfahren des DBR-Projektes für die Evaluation eines ersten Entwicklungszyklus umfasst ein Mixed-Method-Ansatz: 1. Qualitative Interviews mit Lernenden der Sekundarstufe II Stufe (ca. 10 beteiligte Schulen: Berufsfachschulen und Gymnasien). Die Lernenden werden zu ihren Erfahrungen mit dem KI-Chatbot, sowie Einstellungen und Wahrnehmungen befragt, mit dem Ziel, die quantitative, breite Umfrage zu spezifizieren. 2. Erhebung von quantitativen Daten mittels Online-Umfrage über alle Kurse des Samples. 3. Analyse des Nutzungsverhaltens von Lernenden anhand ausgewählter KI-Dialoge (z.B. Dauer der Promptings). Ergebnisse und Diskussion Der Beginn für die Datenerhebung ist für Februar 2025 geplant. Konkrete Ergebnisse und detaillierte Analysen werden erst nach Abschluss der Datensammlung und deren Auswertung vorliegen. Dies ermöglicht eine gründliche Untersuchung der Nutzungsmuster und Effektivität des KI-Chatbots in verschiedenen Lernkontexten auf der Sekundarstufe II. Die Ergebnisse dieser Analyse werden im Sommer 2025 verfügbar sein und einen tieferen Einblick in die Auswirkungen und Potenziale des Einsatzes von KI-Chatbots in Schulen auf der Sekundarstufe II bieten.

    Innovating pedagogy for an AI-driven world: Developing AI competencies and future work identities in management education
    (European Academy of Management (EURAM), 2025) ;
    The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into industries and society has transformed the skills and mindsets required for professions. However, there is a significant gap in understanding the best strategies for developing curricula that effectively foster AI literacy and integrate AI competencies into higher education. Additionally, the relationship between AI competencies and students’ professional outlook and career planning remains underexplored. Therefore, this study examines how students’ confidence in using AI (AI empowerment) shapes their future orientation, career aspirations and envisioned future work selves (FWS). Building on the literature on AI empowerment and career development, we analyzed data from 699 undergraduate students from Switzerland and Germany using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Our findings reveal that AI empowerment positively impacts students’ future orientation and career aspirations, which in turn enhance the salience of their FWS. However, career aspirations did not directly influence FWS salience, suggesting additional mediators or developmental factors. Building on these findings, we provide actionable insights for management education by proposing a roadmap of six measures to bridge the gap between AI empowerment, career aspirations, and FWS salience. By enhancing the understanding of how AI competencies shape students’ professional identities, this research offers a practical roadmap for universities to develop future-ready business leaders equipped for an AI-driven world.
