Item type:Publication, Unravelling company-internal data silos – A multiple case study of intra-organizational usage of supplier assessment data in manufacturing firms(2026); ;Antons, Oliver; Arlinghaus, JuliaManufacturing firms must continuously balance information processing requirements and capacity when assessing suppliers under increasing uncertainty and complexity. Drawing on organizational information processing theory, this study investigates how firms design intra-organizational integration in supplier assessment processes. Based on a multiple case study of four manufacturing companies, the findings show that firms configure supplier assessment through combinations of cross-functional integration, assessment scope, strategic prioritization, and technological assistance. The results further reveal that integration is inherently bounded, as firms selectively process supplier-related information based on its perceived usefulness and manageability, thereby balancing information processing requirements and capacity.Type:conference paper - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

While supply chain resilience has been widely studied, limited guidance exists on how focal firms can evaluate suppliers’ contributions to resilience. This study conducts a systematic litera-ture review to synthesize how manufacturing companies assess supplier resilience within supplier performance assessment practices. Findings show that existing ap-proaches are fragmented and often risk-focused rather than capability-oriented. Using the sensing, seizing, and transforming dynamic capabilities framework, the analysis identifies ten supplier resilience dimensions. These insights integrate dispersed assess-ment criteria into a coherent framework. Item type:Publication, Shedding Light into Barriers of Truck Sharing in Road Freight Transport: Bridging Driver and Company Perspective(2024-06-14)Sharing trucks in commercial road freight transport emerges as a promising solution to improve efficiency and sustainability in the traffic sector. By optimising the deployment of trucks resources including driver, tractor and trailer, reductions in empty mileage and downtimes can be achieved, leading to lower emissions and alleviating congestion. However, despite the growing pressure on efficient truck usage due to rising costs associated with the adoption of alternative engines, shared mobility concepts contributing to optimsing truck utilisation are still scarce in road freight transport. This paper employs a backcasting approach to explore barriers to overcome fostering the implementation of truck sharing in practice, with a specific focus on horizontal sharing among fleet operators. Applying a mixed methods approach, the perspectives of 110 professional truck drivers in Germany and Switzerland are investigated via an online survey. In addition, 24 semi-structured interviews are conducted with CEOs and managers of truck fleet operators. Our findings from a comparative analysis reveal the existence of distinct barriers perceived by truck drivers and companies. To facilitate the adoption of truck sharing in road freight transport, this study offers practical implications for both industry practitioners and policymakers. In addition to the overall market analysis with updated figures and forecasts, the Top100 as an overview of the 100 largest logistics service providers in Switzerland, the focus is on two key topics: firstly, the growing influence of Asian online platforms: Swiss online trade is facing increasing crowding out by Asian platforms such as Temu and Shein. The study examines the economic, sustainable and logistical impact of these developments and how Swiss retailers can hold their own against the competition. Secondly, cyber threats in the logistics sector are examined as a further in-depth topic: Increasing digitalization also increases the risk of cyber attacks. Logistics companies in particular are the focus of cyber criminals. This book is the first to present a comprehensive concept for the application of sharing economy principles to road freight transport. Despite mounting pressure on the industry, including driver shortage, tight margins and efficiency deficits, shared mobility remains largely untapped in freight transport. This book introduces truck-sharing as a new strategic approach for unlocking underutilised capacity and increasing operational flexibility. The analysis is grounded in real-world practice, integrating the engaged scholarship approach with backcasting methodology to explore use cases, implementation drivers and barriers, and strategic implications. It integrates insights from horizontal cooperation and the sharing economy into a forward-looking, design-oriented framework tailored for logistics decision-makers. Item type:Publication, Generative Artificial Intelligence in Logistics – Use Cases and Application PotentialThe use of Generative AI (Gen AI) in logistics is gaining significant attention, with expectations of cost reduction and improved efficiency. However, there has been a lack of structured evaluation and practical guidance for its application in the field. A practitioner-focused study by the Institute for Production and Supply Chain Management (PSCM-HSG) at the University of St. Gallen addresses this gap. It offers a theoretical foundation of Gen AI, explores current and future use cases in logistics, and provides actionable frameworks and recommendations for businesses. The study identifies 16 potential use cases, categorized into: • Knowledge Enablement (e.g., digital knowledge twins, training support), • Decision Drafting (e.g., offer creation, contract and invoice checks), and • Operational Intelligence (e.g., data management, customs clearance). A four-phase framework is proposed to help companies: 1. Identify relevant use cases, 2. Assess their potential, 3. Implement them using an eight-step method, and 4. Deploy & control solutions effectively. The trend radar illustrates the current technological, social and economic trends in the Swiss logistics market and their dynamics. The focus of the analysis of developments in the freight transport market is on determining the sustainability of logistics. In addition, mode-specific developments in road, rail, air and shipping are examined in order to describe the current market situation. Besides the recurring static topics, the issue includes two dynamic topics, geopolitical crises and automation: the complexity along global trade routes is constantly increasing due to global crises. Established flows of goods have had to be adapted within a very short space of time, which is now leading to new challenges. Delays and cost increases in supply chains are the logical consequence.
