Description
The current study investigates data sharing in the insurance industry. By surveying customers in 24 countries, this project determines the drivers of customers’ willingness to share their data with their insurer. Relatedly, this study explores the role customers’ embeddedness in (insurance and other industries’) eco systems regarding their sharing behavior. In respect thereof, different areas of life may lead to different data sharing readiness in an insurance context. The present study outlines the contextual influence of such areas of life. Moreover, this work broadens the under-standing of data sharing by integrating and investigating aspects of the customer participation literature. As previous I.VW and IBM studies have shown, customers may be willing to participate in the service provision, i.e. to share their data, if the receive some benefit from their active in-volvement. This work aims at deepening the understanding in this regard.
