Description
Innovation is a social achievement. This project sets out to investigate the recursive social processes of organizing in the stabilization of Grid technology. The Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) school suggest technological ‘facts' as socially constructed. Actor network theory (ANT) furthermore suggests innovation as the outcome of such social construction in terms of "translating" the concerns of relevant social groups as well as of material artefacts to the innovation network. Thus, the study examines the discursive, symbolic and artifactual practices of translation by means of the empirical case of Grid development at CERN in Geneva.
