Description
This postdoctoral research project provides a synopsis of a series of research papers published by the author between 2001 and 2006. The objective of the author's research programme is to investigate processes that determine the emergence of a market for new, innovative and environmentally preferable energy technologies. The synopsis paper shows how the individual papers are related and build upon another. It also helps to contextualize the author's research in the field of Sustainability Management and Innovation Studies. The paper demonstrates the relevance of the chosen topic against the background of global climate challenges and the urgently needed transition towards a more sustainable energy system. Five key processes are identified that play a decisive role for successful venturing for sustainable energy, namely (1) venture capital, (2) sustainable entrepreneurship, (3) corporate venturing, (4) customer adoption, and (5) energy policy. For each of these pieces of the sustainable energy puzzle, key insights are drawn from the individual research papers, and their relevance for the bigger picture is explained. The paper ends with implications for further research, as well as for practitioners from the energy investment and policy communities.
