Description
The opportunities and ways of manufacturing are changing worldwide. In recent years, different concepts such as “Smart Manufacturing”, “Industrie 4.0” or “Industrial Internet” show the diversity of ideas to create the production of the future. All these visions are based on new, digital technologies and are connecting both physical and cyber world.
Our benchmarking project "Digital Technologies - Evolution of production in high-wage countries" focuses on the examination of approaches for, applications of and developments in digital technologies to strengthen the position of manufacturing plants in high-wage locations. The goal is to identify and understand Successful Practice companies. As a participant in the benchmarking you have the unique opportunity to get insights into our research conclusions and – depending on the performance of your digital technologies resp. manufacturing activities – being endorsed as a Successful Practice candidate.

PublicationBenchmarking Digital Technologies. Evolution of production in high-wage countries: Site Visit Report for Consortium Partners and Successful Practices( 2019-07-08)Digitalization and the application of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, collaborative robotics, augmented reality or big data are progressing steadily. In particular, companies with plants in countries such as Austria, Germany or Switzerland are expecting new productivity gains and a positive impact on the competitiveness of their high-wage locations. How-ever, which technologies are relevant? What collaborations are important and what are the overall benefits of digitization? In order to understand the challenges and decisions of manufacturing companies with plants in high-wage locations better, the Institute of Technology Management at the University of St.Gallen conducted the benchmarking “Digital Technologies”. It focused on the topics of organization, strategy, application, stakeholders, in-vestments and performance of digitalization activities.
