Abstract
In this panel we discuss the specific constraints and
struggles that come with the current conditions of
postfeminism and of managerializing universities.
From the backdrop of our recent findings from
empirical research on gender change/ gendered
careers in the Netherlands and in Switzerland,
we identify
several crucial issues showcasing the critical
outcomes of individualism, especially when it
comes to gender. For instance, our research on the
leaky pipeline shows how this metaphor became a
powerful tool for reforms of the recruitment
processes. However, at the same time gender
equality is reduced to avoiding bias in selection
processes while other pressing issues are blinded,
such as the narrowness of the excellence definition
or the ‚epistemological sexism’ of disciplinary
knowledge development. Concluding, we argue for
the need of multiple feminist interventions for
fostering further change towards gender equality.
