Abstract (De)
The shortage of skilled labour is hindering the ability of companies to exploit the growth potential of new technology. Because building competencies is a good way to fill these gaps, many companies have increased their efforts to retrain or upskill staff. This issue is especially true for the automotive industry as new technologies and their required competencies emerge more frequently. A single case study with Volkswagen Passenger Cars (VW) was conducted to determine how strategic upskilling supports the AI transformation. A large part of the workforce of VW must be upskilled to transform Volkswagen Passenger Cars from a mechanical engineering company into a software company. To this end, VW uses a gradual approach across four proficiency levels: awareness, beginner, advanced and expert.
