First, this chapter traces how the concept of atmosphere has evolved in the fields
of theology, philosophy, geography, sociology, psychology and architecture.
Then it analyses the question of how to describe atmospheres and how to deepen
the perception of atmospheres through market research. Finally, the chapter
discusses the possibilities and limits of naming and typologising atmospheres.
