Abstract
Despite extensive scholarly inquiry, organizations still face formidable impediments during the process of digital transformation. While research emphasizes the importance of intrapreneurial competencies and the role of individual employees, organizations struggle to leverage their employees' potential for innovation and change. This study engages in a multiple-case analysis to elucidate the role of intrapreneurship programs in fostering digital transformation. Our findings reveal that intrapreneurship programs have multi-level effects on digital transformation beyond the development of new ventures. We identify that failed projects foster participants' competencies, cultural, structural, and technological changes, and learning capabilities within the organization. Our results question the meaning of failure in digital transformation and intrapreneurship research and position intrapreneurship programs as practical means for digital transformation.
