Abstract
This chapter explores the dynamic interplay between disciplinary research in educational science and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), using two interrelated research projects as exemplars. The first project investigates theory-related beliefs and attitudes of students and instructors in education-related programs through a multiperspective mixed-methods design. The second project—a SoTL initiative—focuses on fostering future teachers' professionalism in dealing with educational media, particularly instructional videos, within a seminar developed and iteratively refined through critical reflection and multi-source evaluation. Through an autoethnographic comparative lens, the chapter highlights key intersections: both projects address the theory-practice nexus, employ interdisciplinary and mixed-methods approaches, and stem from dissatisfaction with the status quo in educational practice. The analysis illustrates how research and teaching can mutually enrich each other, while simultaneously contributing to the advancement of the field and the development of open educational resources. Finally, the chapter reflects on the boundaries and overlaps between SoTL, disciplinary research, and educational scholarship, advocating for a reflective and theory-informed approach to academic development.
