Abstract
We develop a framework for analyzing perceived technological threats, conceptualizing seven distinct threat types. We apply this framework to examine media coverage of AI through automated coding of newspaper articles from 2000 to 2024, providing insights into temporal shifts in the public perception of this rapidly evolving technology.
