Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the 2025 research efforts of the HCI group at the University of St. Gallen, highlighting how interactive technologies are integrated into everyday life. Our work spans socio-emotional interaction, embodied use, accessibility, and civic participation, emphasising the gap between technological potential and lived experience. Contributions include studies on companion bots, mobile mixed reality, AI-powered assistive wearables, generative AI for urban participation, and exploratory navigation systems. Across these studies, we apply qualitative, participatory, and in-the-wild methodologies, including longitudinal observation, autoethnography, experience-driven design, and technology probes. The findings provide empirical and conceptual insights into user behaviour, needs, and challenges, informing the design of more human-centred, adaptive, and socially responsible interactive systems.
