Abstract
Enterprise systems have allowed companies and administrations to integrate operations across functional silos. The scope of integration has gradually extended toward supply chains and broader business ecosystems. The growing adoption of AI applications introduces localized application scenarios and raises questions about how these systems interact with existing enterprise system integration logic. Specifically, AI adoption challenges the balance between integration scope and decision autonomy at the enterprise level. Through a conceptually guided analysis of various AI adoption cases, we explore the emergence of different autonomy-integration configurations across distinct application contexts. While some AI use cases align with traditional enterprise system integration stages, others introduce novel coordination configurations that deviate from classic integration patterns. Our findings underscore the need for adaptive integration concepts in AI adoption that extend beyond traditional fusion logics to address the evolving demands of orchestration, composability and federated governance in enterprise architectures.
