Abstract
Vorwerk SE & Co. KG (or simply “Vorwerk”) has been able to sustain its success in the digital world in recent years due primarily to its Thermomix food processor and associated recipe platform, Cookidoo. Vorwerk is privately owned, with a turnover of €3.2 billion in 2023, of which revenue generated by sales of the Thermomix multifunctional food processor and Cookidoo recipe platform contributed some €1.7 billion. Vorwerk has achieved a sustainable digital transformation through the innovative use of information and communications technologies in its products and internal business processes. As a result, Vorwerk has become one of the leading lights in strategic management and digital transformation.
On 10 September 2024, Patrick Naef of Acent AG and Walter and Barbara Brenner, both of the Institute of Information Systems and Digital Business at the University of St. Gallen, conducted the following interview with Marcel Keller, former member of the board of Vorwerk, to better understand how businesses are leveraging information and communications technologies. The discussion encompassed innovative product development, Vorwerk’s business model, the integration of process IT and product IT , and the evolving role of the CIO. The transcript has been lightly edited for clarity.
