Abstract
This report compares access to cash infrastructure in France and Switzerland using high-resolution population data and geolocated cash access points to assess travel distances and times by car in 2024. Despite differing demographic and administrative structures, both countries maintain high overall accessibility, with most residents reaching cash services within short distances. Switzerland demonstrates slightly better accessibility, particularly in rural areas, due to its more balanced settlement structure. France exhibits greater rural disparities, mitigated significantly by its extensive post office network. The findings underscore the importance of complementary infrastructures—ATMs, bank branches, and post offices—in ensuring near-universal cash access across diverse territorial contexts.
