Description

Item type:Publication, Benefits of supply chain finance-oriented working capital approaches in three-tier supply chains(2019-09-06); Hofmann, ErikThis paper examines the functional form of the relationship between working capital assets and corporate performance, beyond the traditional single company perspective. In particular, it explores how collaborative practices in working capital management (WCM) influence a focal company’s performance in triadic supply chain sections. Further, the performance impact of supply chain finance (SCF)-oriented WCM approaches is investigated.Type:conference paperJournal:LRN 2019 conference proceedings of the 24th annual conference of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport: Building a platform for international success - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Blockchain Can Solve the Pain Points of Trade and Supply Chain FinanceAll markets are now being transformed by the new business models arising out of developments in information technology; blockchain is one of these new technologies. Blockchain has the power to transform decentralised ledgers as a tool to record, enable and secure an enormous range of transactions. It has no central authority; instead, it uses a shared record of information distributed over a vast network of users. This way, blockchain can deliver a new kind of trust to trade and supply chain finance.Type:newspaper articleJournal:B2B Fintech: Payments, Supply Chain Finance and E-invoicing Market Guide 2018 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Working Capital Management Study 2019 - Supply Chain Finance Follow-up(2019-09-18) ;Hofmann, ErikReducing capital tie-up costs, increasing internal financing capacity and releasing liquidity are the three key goals of CFOs in working capital management(WCM). However, achieving these goals is a major challenge for many companies due to various internal and external conflicts of interest. Supply chain finance (SCF) as an alternative form of financing is an innovative dimension of WCM and opens up many opportunities for finance managers to achieve their goals in WCM together with suppliers and customers. But how has the willingness to introduce SCF changed over recent years? Which tools are companies using to optimize working capital? Which obstacles exist in relation to the use of SCF solutions? What is the situation regarding the self-financing capacity of Swiss companies? What impact is the continued low interest-rate environment having on demand for working capital? And what percentage of invoices are automated and processed digitally at Swiss companies? The 6th edition of the WCM Study, published by the Supply Chain Finance Lab of Swiss Post at the University of St. Gallen, explores this and other fascinating issues. The study looks at the performance fields in WCM and illustrates key methods – using best practice examples – for achieving financial flexibility beyond traditional company boundaries.Type:bookVolume:6. Item type:Publication, Working Capital Management Study 2020 – Supply Chain Finance in-n-out(2020-08-26) ;Hofmann, Erik“The king is dead, long live the king!” Or as the saying goes: “cash is king!” Working capital management (WCM) is once again the top priority for CFOs – despite the continued low-interest environment and government injections of liquidity amounting to billions of francs. The trigger for this development was (and still is) the coronavirus crisis. Regardless of the size of the company, sector or country – finance and supply chain managers are focusing more than ever on the management of working capital, securing and managing liquidity. Even before the crisis arose, far-sighted CFOs began to secure their liquidity requirements by using systematic WCM and by releasing capital tied up in the supply chain. Inter-company WCM approaches based on cooperation are popular at the moment and can be summed up by the generic term “supply chain finance” (SCF). But how much liquidity can be released with SCF financing solutions? And how has the range of services on the SCF market developed in recent months? The seventh edition of the WCM study is dedicated to these questions and many other interesting issues. This edition aims to highlight further ways of creating financial room for manoeuvre and focus on developments in supply chain finance from the perspective of individual companies (inside-out) as well as from the market (outside-in).Type:bookVolume:7. Item type:Publication, Foundational premises and value drivers of blockchain-driven supply chains: the trade finance experienceThe recent hype about blockchain technology and its abilities has led to a reconsideration of existing structures in the field of finance. With a bigger focus on efficient transaction processing, interaction and automation, the underlying concept of a distributed ledger has also showed feasibility for a much broader field. For this reason, the objective of this article lies in a first evaluation of this technology for blockchain-driven supply chains by taking a closer look at potential use cases and existing applications, particularly supply chain operations and trade finance. By aligning all relevant data streams on a digital scale, it is possible not only to make trading processes significantly more functional, but also to improve regulatory control through elimination of redundant practices. A digital, autonomous, decentralized, and distributed network would be applicable to a countless number of services. The initial concept for trade finance provides here a foundation to close the gap between vague assumptions and practical contributions in supply chain management.Type:book section - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
