Description

Item type:Publication, Crowdsourcing in Software Development: A State-of-the-Art Analysis(2015-06-07); ;Durward, David; As software development cycles become shorter and shorter, while software complexity in-creases and IT budgets stagnate, many companies are looking for new ways of acquiring and sourcing knowledge outside their boundaries. One promising solution to aggregate know-how and manage large distributed teams in software development is crowdsourcing. This paper analyzes the existing body of knowledge regarding crowdsourcing in software development. As a result, we propose a fundamental framework with five dimensions to structure the existing insights of crowdsourcing in the context of software development and to derive a research agenda to guide further research.Type:conference paper - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Managing Disruptive Innovation through Service Systems – The Case of Crowdlending in the Banking Industry(Association for Information Systems, 2016-12-11); ; ; ;Jakob, ThomasThe Internet has affected and partially radically changed the business models of traditional industries. Crowdfunding as a new concept of funding over the Internet by a large crowd has especially gained maturity. Crowdfunding offerings range from funding charitable projects or innovative gadgets to a funding alternative for start-ups or small businesses. Therefore, crowdfunding represents an innovative way to provide liquidity for illiquid markets. With regard to the banking crisis and the growing skepticism toward banks, crowdfunding is seen as a more transparent, democratic, and entertaining way of funding, which makes it highly attractive for banks. A senior innovation manager of The Bank of Switzerland (TBOS), one of Switzerland’s largest and most traditional banks, recognized the disruptive and beneficial potential of crowdlending. By facing strong resentments, he developed the idea of TBOS engaging in crowdlending by collaborating with a start-up by bundling competencies in a service system.Type:conference paper - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, What Do We Know About Task Characteristics of Crowdsourcing?(Universitätsverlag Ilmenau, 2018); ; ;Nissen, Volker ;Stelzer, DirkStraßburger, SteffenDigitalization and the Internet changed our life. Many phenomena are responsible for this change. A relatively new one is crowdsourcing. Companies such as Amazon or Procter and Gambles use crowdsourcing successfully. The change will continue and we need to fully understand this subject to use the potential offered by this new phenomenon. This literature review summarizes and structures the crowdsourcing literature with focusing on the crowdsourcability of tasks. We analyzed the outsourcing literature to build a framework and adopted 7 perspectives, which were used to describe the outsourcability of tasks. The framework helps us to structure and analyze the crowdsourcing literature with focusing on the crowdsourcability of tasks. We found relevant literature regarding every perspective, but great research gaps were shown concerning these perspectives, leading to the assumption that the task characteristics of crowdsourcing are not sufficiently explored by the state-of-the-art literature. More research is needed to fully understand and use the potential of crowdsourcing.Type:book sectionVolume:Bd. 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Deconstructing the Sharing Economy: On the relevance for IS research(Universitätsverlag Ilmenau, 2016-03-09) ;Knote, Robin; ;Nissen, Volker ;Stelzer, DirkStraßburger, SteffenIn the past few years, Sharing Economy (SE) has become increasingly popular mainly for consumer research. Past research focused on describing the phenomenon itself and its disrupting influences on current economic mechanisms. However, information systems (IS) research and scientific literature in general still lack a common understanding of SE and its underlying mechanisms. We therefore elaborate on this gap by conducting a literature review among contributions within IS scholarship that address SE in order to identify to what extent past IS research has covered the topic yet. We aimed to highlight interrelations to adjacent topics and illustrate potential research gaps. As a result, we identified the four perspectives on how the topic is addressed, namely business model, sharing service, sharing asset and exogenous influences. Furthermore, we identified the four principles of SE, which are multi-sided markets, crowdsourcing, trust and recommendation and consumption-based pricing. With this contribution, we aim to guide further investigation of the topic. Additionally, we aim to highlight potential research gaps, as we claim SE to become much more relevant for IS in near future.Type:conference paperVolume:Bd. 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, It's not about having Ideas - It's about making Ideas happen! Fostering Exploratory Innovation with the Intrapreneur AcceleratorOrganizations usually strive for innovation to achieve economic growth. Thereby, incremental innovation of e.g., existing products is often the most attractive way because it is plannable to a certain extent and often reveals short-term success. However, many markets change due to new competitive structures caused by the rise of digital services, which facilitates market entries of new companies. For an incumbent firm trying to cope with these competitors, exploitation of existing ideas and technologies (i.e., incremental innovation) is not enough. Although these firms usually pay minor attention to it, they need to additionally explore how to establish disruptive innovation that complements or even changes their traditional business model before competitors do. In this contribution, we present a novel structure to foster exploratory innovation within incumbent organizations by unleashing the innovative potential of intrapreneurs as peripheral innovators: the Intrapreneur Accelerator. We consider this novel structure a service system for supporting intrapreneurs to develop and implement extraordinary ideas and thus fostering exploratory innovation for the organization. Using a design science approach, we will further present our methodology and our preliminary results, since we have already conducted two of four design iterations.Type:conference paper - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An Empirical Taxonomy of Crowdfunding IntermediariesDue to the recent popularity of crowdfunding, a broad magnitude of crowdfunding intermediaries has emerged, while research on crowdfunding intermediaries has been largely neglected. As a consequence, existing classifications of crowdfunding intermediaries are conceptual, lack theoretical grounding, and are not empirically validated. Thus, we develop an empirical taxonomy of crowdfunding intermediaries, which is grounded in the theories of two-sided markets and financial intermediation. Integrating these theories, we develop a crowdfunding intermediation model that we use as foundation for performing cluster analysis with data of 127 intermediaries. We identify three generic archetypes of crowdfunding intermediaries, which differ in their value proposition: Hedonism, Altruism, and For Profit. Our crowdfunding intermediation model and our empirical taxonomy improve our understanding of crowdfunding by showing how crowdfunding intermediaries manage financial intermediation and digitally transform exchange relations between capital-giving and -seeking agents in two-sided online markets. For practice, our research may help characterize the crowdfunding industry.Type:conference paper - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
