Abstract
The authors present and discuss a methodical approach to assess digital design structures, here exemplified with a web application about sport events (Virtual Spectator). They refer to the digital genre theory discussion, suggesting to replace"digital document" by"digital product", thus enabling to introduce the Media Reference Model (MRM) used in the new product development (NPD). This model allows to examinate a digital product's design aspects in a holistic way. The MRM is presented as a tool offering an enhanced approach to genre theory.
