For the systematic evolution of interdisciplinary socio-technical systems, such as business intelligence (BI), concepts are needed that comprehensively address multifaceted challenges. To support such strategic improvement initiatives, we propose two artifacts: (i) a BI maturity model that is grounded on existing theories on information systems success, and (ii) a measurement instrument for evaluation and application of the developed maturity model. Regarding the relevancy of our contribution, we provide a readily available apparatus to strategically advance organizational decision making capabilities; Regarding its rigor, we present an empirically grounded approach to measure BI maturity.
