Item type:Publication, Electric Vehicle Drivers’ Search for Charging Convenience: The Role of Pricing and Paths to Effective Segmentation(2024-02) ;Thibault Buraglio; Electric vehicle (EV) drivers currently encounter a multitude of tariffs and providers when charging at public stations. This study examines the impact of this situation on EV drivers’ satisfaction in Switzerland and finds a strong focus of the drivers on convenience and a lack of loyalty. The proximity and availability of charging stations are identified as key priorities. Furthermore, the study reveals the emergence of different driver segments, suggesting the need for tailored strategies.Type:journal articleJournal:Marketing Review St. Gallen - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Excerpt: From Academia to Application: Can marketing researchers estimate managerial relevance? (IMTC, 2025)(2025-01-22)Marketing researchers' ability to assess whether research is of value to its practitioner target audience is a basic assumption underlying many of today's practices within academia. In the most prestigious marketing journals, researchers are often tasked to assess the value of research to practice as part of the peer review process. Within their own research, it's common practice to emphasize managerial relevance and its implications, and even within their own classes, researchers are often required to select research that is relevant to their audience. For practitioners such tags of relevance are one of the few potential proxies for more efficiently identifying research of value to them. However, given the distinct difference between the systems of science and practice, such an ability seems unlikely. In two studies, it is (expectedly) found that researchers have little ability to estimate managerial relevance. Furthermore, their estimates include an overprojection of scientific relevance at the expense of actual accuracy. The implications for existing relevance tags, review processes, and journal missions are outlined.Type:conference paper - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Excerpt: Assessing the Capacity of Marketing Researchers to Estimate Managerial Relevance: An Empirical Exploration (EMAC, 2025)(2025-05-29)The ability of marketing researchers to assess whether research is of value to their target audience of practitioners is a basic assumption underlying many of today's academic practices. Peer-reviews in prestigious marketing journals often require researchers to assess the managerial relevance. Researchers are also often expected to assert and outline managerial relevance for their own studies. However, systematic differences between science and practice call such an ability into question. An empirical study analysing 406 reviews by researchers and practitioners found that researchers struggle to accurately assess the managerial relevance of research. Moreover, their assessments tend to include an overprojection of scientific relevance at the expense of actual accuracy. It may therefore be necessary to adjust the claims of managerial relevance in journals, or alternatively the review processes themselves, if the validity of such claims is to be achieved.Type:conference paper - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Type:book sectionVolume:2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Is This Research Relevant? The Role of Scholars Practical Experience in Evaluating Managerial Relevance(2026)Marketing scholars routinely evaluate the managerial relevance of research during the publication process, yet little is known about how closely these evaluations align with practitioners’ assessments. Because managerial relevance is defined from a practitioner perspective, such evaluations may be challenging when scholars’ exposure to managerial contexts varies and is often limited. Usingpaired evaluations of submissions to a European marketing transfer journal—each independently reviewed by one scholar and one practitioner—we document that alignment between scholars’ and practitioners’ managerial relevance ratings is generally weak. Moreover, alignment is substantially higher when scholarly reviewers have recent practical experience and declines as experience becomes more temporally distant, a pattern corroborated by LOESS smoothing of the absolute scholar–practitioner rating gap. Together, these findings contribute to research on the academia–practice gap by identifying scholars’ recent practical experience as a key condition under which evaluations of managerial relevance more closely reflect practitioner assessments.Type:conference contribution - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Dynamic Optical Test for Bot Identification (DOT-BI): A simple check to identify bots in surveys and online processes(2025-12-04); We propose the Dynamic Optical Test for Bot Identification (DOT-BI): a quick and easy method that uses human perception of motion to differentiate between human respondents and automated systems in surveys and online processes. In DOT-BI, a 'hidden' number is displayed with the same random black-and-white pixel texture as its background. Only the difference in motion and scale between the number and the background makes the number perceptible to humans across frames, while frame-by-frame algorithmic processing yields no meaningful signal. We conducted two preliminary assessments. Firstly, state-of-the-art, video-capable, multimodal models (GPT-5-Thinking and Gemini 2.5 Pro) fail to extract the correct value, even when given explicit instructions about the mechanism. Secondly, in an online survey (n=182), 99.5% (181/182) of participants solved the task, with an average end-to-end completion time of 10.7 seconds; a supervised lab study (n=39) found no negative effects on perceived ease-ofuse or completion time relative to a control. We release code to generate tests and 100+ prerendered variants to facilitate adoption in surveys and online processes.Type:working paperJournal:arXiv
